Crime: This jury trial occurred in December, 2016. This was a brutal domestic violence, and sexual assault trial of a husband and his wife. When the wife finally reported the abuse, she had broken ribs, a broken spine, and deep black bruising all over her torso and the lower half of her bottom. A close examination of the Defendant’s text messages revealed how he utterly dominated and controlled his wife, and forced her to submit in humiliating ways.

Crime: This was a case where a Defendant sexually assaulted a next door neighbor girl who was special needs – hard of hearing. There was an added challenge to the case in that police discovered child pornography on the Defendant’s computer, but we weren’t permitted to disclose the existence of that child pornography during the child sexual assault trial.

Sentence: 8 years prison
Crime: This Waukesha jury trial occurred in October of 2017. This Waukesha trial involved the domestic abuse, and felony bail jumping of this jealous Defendant, and his ex-girlfriend. He traveled from Watertown to Oconomowoc, and broke into her home one night. After entering her home, he pushed her around and strangled her. The Defendant was arrested and released on bail with the condition that he have no contact with the ex-girlfriend. A few weeks later, he followed her home from a restaurant where she had been spending time with coworkers. He threatened her life and accused her of sleeping with her coworker.

Crime: This jury trial occurred in October of 2017. In this combined trial, the Defendant sexually assaulted two different young teenage boys. Both boys came from troubled backgrounds. In both cases, he groomed the boys, and was in a position. In a third case, he violated the conditions of bail, when he was using drugs, drinking alcohol, and making sexually inappropriate comments to police officers.

Crime: This was a heart-wrenching case where a mother and step-father caused mental harm to their special needs daughter. The victim was treated differently than her two step-sisters. At a residence in Brookfield, for example, she slept on a cot in an unfinished, unheated basement. She was not permitted to eat with or play with her sisters, and was largely confined to that basement when she was home from school. The step-father screamed and berated her. The mother allowed this behavior to occur.

Crime: The Defendant sexually assaulted two teenage girls. These were friends of his teenage children. He groomed each child, separately appealing to their different interests. Once they became comfortable with him, he took advantage of each of them. The trial was remarkable in the ways each of these kids, and their families suffered. The trauma that he inflicted on these two families was profound, and maybe life-lasting.

Crime: This was a sexually case involving a grandfather and his three granddaughters. They each talked separately about how he assaulted them during various sleepovers. Powerfully, their separate accounts were remarkably similar.

Crime: This was a physical abuse of a child jury trial, where the Defendant break his newborn son’s school. He claimed during a reenactment with the police that his son may have fallen from his arms, and struck his head on the arm of a recliner. He later claimed that alternatively, he may have dropped his son in the kitchen. But a Waukesha County Deputy Medical Examiner refuted these explanations, and explained how the amount of trauma to this child’s brain and skull could have only occurred from massive accelerating and decelerating forces, like those cause from a high speed car crash or from massive blunt force trauma.

Sentence: 4 Years in Prison
Crime: This was a stalking and a domestic abuse jury trial, where a husband was horribly cruel and demeaning towards his wife, breaking her down mentally and emotionally. This marriage was also permeated with rage and violence. The Defendant was a body builder, and police seized testosterone supplements that chemically enhanced his rage. The victim kept a regular journal, and these journal entries illustrated the depth and the intensity of the Defendant’s rage.

Crime: This was a sexual assault case involving a family friend. The family opened their home to this friend, and tried to assist with finding him a job and some financial stability. One weekend morning in the summer, the mother walked in to find the defendant under the covers with her five-year old daughter. The daughter clearly described how the Defendant assaulted her. DNA evidence corroborated her account.

Sentence:
15 years prison
Crime: This was a repeated physical abuse of a child case, where a mother’s boyfriend inflicted considerable injury to a young two year old child. This was an entirely circumstantial case where daycare workers testified that the child was healthy when the child left daycare (with the boyfriend) on a Thursday afternoon. When the child returned to daycare the following Monday morning (by the mother), the child had bruising all over her chest and back and legs, and had a black eye. This case was challenging in that not only was the Defendant entirely uncooperative during this criminal investigation, but the mother remained committed to this Defendant, and chose her relationship with him over the safety of her daughter.
